Strong Opening Weekend at Le Tour de France

The opening weekend of our debut Tour de France exceeded all expectations, delivering more than we could have imagined: a double Top-10 finish on Stage 1 and a Top-5 today, among several standout moments.

Arriving at the Tour with clear ambitions for a stage win, the team was well-prepared for the challenges of the opening weekend in the Hauts-de-France region. Stage 1 surprised many with strong winds that led to echelons forming in the final 20 kilometers. With three of our riders making it into the front group, we secured two Top-10 finishes — Matteo Trentin in 5th and Marius Mayrhofer in 9th — making us the “Best Team” of the stage.

Claiming victory in the Team Classification allowed us to match today our yellow helmets with the yellow bibs, adding a bright touch to the otherwise grey and rainy day.

Today’s stage featured a 210 km route with a punchy, hilly finish — tailor-made for explosive riders like Julian Alaphilippe and Marc Hirschi. After a demanding first day, Julian wasn’t certain he had the legs to fight for the win, but he gave it his all. The decisive selection came with 30 km to go, and the final two climbs gradually thinned the front group. Ultimately, a reduced bunch of 25 riders — including all GC contenders — sprinted for the line, with Julian launching his sprint with 500 meters remaining and finishing in a strong 5th place.

With the opening weekend now behind us, the team is pleased with the outcome. As DS Matteo Tosatto summed it up:“The first stages of the Tour de France are always stressful and chaotic, so we’re happy to have made it through safely. We can be even prouder of our three Top-10 finishes — Matteo and Marius yesterday, and Julian today. These performances give us real confidence moving forward.”
