Off to a Flying Start at the Tour: Best Team of The Day!

Stage 1 of the Tour de France was anything but predictable. Tudor Pro Cycling was right in the mix and took the Best Team prize thanks to top-10 finishes.

Over 185 km with 1,200 meters of elevation and increasing winds, the stage split apart with 17 km to go. A 40-man lead group formed in the crosswinds, including Matteo Trentin, Marius Mayrhofer taking initiative and Marco Haller.

Establishing a 40-second gap, the group prepared for a sprint showdown. Marco expertly positioned Matteo and Marius in the final kilometers. While Marius lost Matteo’s wheel in the chaos with 500 meters to go, both riders powered to the line - Matteo finishing 5th and Marius 9th. Importantly, all Tudor riders finished safely, and Tudor Pro Cycling ends Stage 1 as the leader in the Team Classification, Best Team of the Tour de France.

Marius: “It was a really stressful stage. We had three riders in the front group, and both Marco and Matteo did a great job helping me into position for the sprint. Unfortunately, I lost Matteo’s wheel with 500 meters to go, so I couldn’t do better than 9th. Still, I’m happy to be in the top 10 of my very first Tour de France stage.”

Matteo: “With today’s wind, it was all about racing at the front. We knew where the echelons could form and reacted well. Once they formed, we had to commit. In the final, Marco helped position us, but against the bigger teams, we lacked numbers for a full lead-out, but with 5th and 9th place finishes - and starting the Tour as the Best Team - it’s a great way to begin our Tour de France.”

ports Director Matteo Tosatto: "As always before the Tour, there was a mix of excitement and nerves. With the wind forecasted, we were well prepared—our original plan was to sprint with Alberto, but he narrowly missed the front group by just a few positions. Fortunately, we had Marius, Marco, and Matteo up there, which gave us a strong trio. We quickly adapted and shifted our sprint focus to Marius, even knowing the competition was tough. Finishing with two riders in the Top 10 and taking the Best Team classification on Stage 1 is a result we’re really proud of."
