He announced it during the post-race interview of Grand Prix de Fourmies last Sunday. Arvid De Kleijn was at the start of Grand Prix d'Isbergues to win again. Today's race didn't go as planned but the result is even more impressive.
Before heading off to the award ceremony, Arvid explained: “It was a great race, we had everything under control until I crashed with a few team-mates with three laps to go. I first wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with my head so I asked myself a few questions. I was able to answer them all so thought I was good to go. I went again and was asked by the team if I wanted to try sprinting. I really did."
Arvid and a few members of the team had to wait for a long time at the location of the crash as the team car was last in the queue. "We were able to come back thanks to a great team effort but then I only had Rick (Pluimers) and Maikel (Zaijlaard) for the sprint. They did a remarkable job once again. In the sprint, Maikel was leading for a long time, and I even thought at some point that he could make it to the finish, but I ended up taking the win. It is amazing. I was in a lot of pain because of the crash. It was hard but with guys like these, it is so nice to give it all and finish it off. I hope I can recover quickly and be ok for the next race on Friday at the Kampioenschap van Vlaanderen.”
