The peloton set a blistering pace early on (49.8 km/h in the first hour, followed by 47.4 km/h in the second) as riders fought hard to make the break. A decisive move finally went clear with 137 km to go. Michael Storer bridged across 10 km later.

The breakaway of eight gained ground while the peloton eased off, content to let the escapees battle it out. As the race approached its final phase, Ben Healy launched a solo attack with 30 km remaining. a move no one could match. Not even Michael and Quinn Simmons who formed a strong duo and attempted to come back.

The chase for second place came down to the brutal final climb, with gradients touching 11%. Storer dug deep but had to settle down for third, securing a historic first-ever Tour de France podium for the Team.

Michael: “It super tough to get into the breakaway, my first in this Tour de France. We didn’t want to miss it as a Team so I took the chance. Congratulations to Ben. It is impressive to put 2’ to such a strong group. I am happy with my shape although it wasn’t enough to battle for the win today.”

Matteo Tosatto, Sports Director: “It was a nice day for the Team. This morning we knew this would be a breakaway day, so we wanted to send one or two riders. We were present in all attacks with different riders, Marc Julian and Marco and Michael joined the right one later on. There were very strong riders in the front, so we are really happy with Michael’s performance and result. The team is young but the riders are experienced, so we have plenty of cards to play in the next days as well. Now time for recovery. It will be very important.”
