The opening three flat stages focused on Alberto Dainese, who delivered a consistent run in the sprints with finishes of 5th, 8th, and 2nd. Afterward, the Italian shifted his efforts toward supporting the team’s GC ambitions.
Stage 4, featuring three ascents of Burton Dassett’s punchy 0.9 km climb at 7%, proved ideal for the attackers. Alaphilippe fought hard in the uphill sprint, finishing second by just two seconds and moving into a strong GC position. The following day’s Queen Stage, with two brutal ascents of The Tumble, saw him cross the line in 7th, holding onto 3rd overall ahead of the decisive finale.
On the last hilly stage, the steep Caerphilly Mountain climb (1.3 km at 9.6%) provided the final showdown. Alaphilippe and youngster Mathys Rondel stayed in the front group as the stage win was decided in a sprint. Alaphilippe finished 6th, sealing 3rd place overall - his first GC podium with the team and a reward for consistency and collective effort. Rondel also impressed, finishing just outside the GC Top 10 and taking 2nd in the Youth Classification, gaining valuable experience for the future.
Alaphilippe reflected with pride: “I am happy with this result and to bring home my first GC podium for the team. We rode as a team the whole week, took responsibility, and were always in the fight - playing different cards. We didn’t win, but with two second places and the GC podium, it’s still a great result. I’m really proud to reward the teamwork of both riders and staff. It was a great week.”
Sports Director Matteo Tosatto confirmed the sentiment: “We didn’t achieve 100% of our goals, but we showed strength and unity throughout the week. The team spirit and character matter the most, and we can be proud of that. Not only were we consistently in the Top 8 on every stage, but finishing on the final GC podium is a great achievement. This race is a strong step forward toward the next challenges.”
