This year’s Tour de Romandie was a true rollercoaster. Maikel Zijlaard kicked things off with an impressive 5th place in the prologue, but the team was dealt an early blow when Joel Suter crashed out on a corner. Despite losing three more riders along the way, we staged a strong comeback in the penultimate stage.
There, 21-year-old Frenchman Mathys Rondel rose to the occasion, riding alongside the top climbers to Thyon 2000 in the Queen stage. His 7th place finish was a breakthrough performance and set him up for a top-10 GC finish after the final time trial — a fast, technical 17 km course through the streets of Geneva. He delivered, securing 9th place overall and confirming his potential as a rising stage racer.
Blessed with unusually perfect weather and postcard-worthy scenery, this year’s Tour de Romandie was a visual delight — but it also reminded us just how unforgiving Swiss roads can be.
See you in just over a month for more excitement on home soil at the Tour de Suisse, from 15–22 June 2025.
